The Mosquito Mafia began in 2006 as a dream by Vector Biologists known only as "The Doc", "The Milkman", and "The Hammer".
The dream was further nourished among a few close friends in a small Delta town over a few drinks in, of all places,
the Bourbon Mall. After several years, working throughout the country, we came to an upsetting conclusion.
Too many people in this county (and probably the rest of the world for that matter) are being motivated for the wrong reasons.
Far too often Politics and Profits stand in the way of doing what we all know is right. For this reason
we decided to start the Mosquito Mafia.
The Mosquito Mafia is made up of people we've met along the way (and people we've yet to meet). People who
inspire us. People who fight every season on behalf of the betterment of all, better research, and improved public health.
People who would (and in some cases have) put their jobs, their careers, and/or their profits on the line in order to
do their best. People who strive to better themselves and the world around them. To all those who fit into that category...
We Salute You!!!
As mosquito control professionals we are proud of what we do. For many of us this is more than just a job, it's a lifestyle.
We all have hats, shirts, stationary, etc. that identify us as "mosquito people" but how many of those items are free
from a municipal name or corporate logo? Hardly any. Profits and Politics just won't allow it. So one evening while
sitting in a spray truck waiting for the sun to set we decided to make an image free of sponsorship. An image that
identifies us as mosquito people. An image we can wear with pride. An image with no agenda. An image with no strings attached.
For two years now we've displayed it proudly as printouts on the wall and as wall paper on our personal computers but
it wasn't until AMCA 2008 that Allen "Don Loe" thought it appropriate to show the world the original idea and share it
with all of you (his only request... "someday he may ask of us a favor").
Thank you, Don Loe.
